eBay

Bought something online on eBay maybe Van Man Removals Edinburgh can help collect and deliver it for you but please note when bidding you take into account the costs of shipping it the length and breadth of Britain. Some people don’t think of the transportation costs involved with this when bidding £65 for a  classic conservatory cane suite that’s in Devon and they live in Inverness , not thinking it will cost more than £50 to deliver it but potentially could cost the price of buying it new !

We have had customers buying range cookers in Sheffield and wanting it shipped to Edinburgh boasting they have saved £100 on the new price without thinking how will I get it here and still save that precious £100 (which could just be fuel cost alone) simple answer is they wont and its not worth it to a Man with a van  Edinburgh to travel that distance exclusively to do it and doing it for a cost to save someone else the money. As one person once told me

your fortune will not be my misfortune

A perfectly honest answer to anyone pleading they have over paid on something they would like delivered cheaply !

So simple tips on ebay

1 Make sure you have worked out all costs before bidding

2 Make sure you don’t bid too high

3 Try find what you are looking for is as local as possible , don’t bid blind without knowing distance involved and costs.

4 Try anyvan.com – if you made all of the above mistakes, some courier style company will transport something long distance for pennies.

Timekeeping

Timekeeping is an important part of a small removal companies job and luckily i`m one of the few who likes to be on time and sometimes earlier than expected. This should be appreciated by customers as not every man with a van Edinburgh is on time, some even don’t bother turning up to carry out the removal job, but sometimes customers don’t see this.

Its also  always good to turn up to do a job and its all ready to go and packed, which it should be well before the removal guys turn up. This isn’t always the case though. Quite frequently Removal customers are not ready or just seem to believe the job starts (as in packing /dismantling wardrobes/desks etc ) when we arrive, not thinking it should all be flat-packed and ready to go before Removal Men turn up.  Often customers are just waiting for the removal guy to advise them to dismantle goods as and when needed not thinking  that if they had been prepared on time/before arrival the job would be done faster and packed more effectivley in the Removal van.

If goods are going to self storage this can save them room as well as storage costs on size of the storage unit customers rent. This lack of preparation/common sense can create issues with packing the van safely in a methodical order and doing the job in a efficient time and carrying out the whole job without problems. Be prepared to move at time you request and make sure everything is ready to move well before you are booked to leave your property and keep whoever is doing your move on time for the rest of the day.

If the removal man turns up early, be grateful hes there and ready to crack on with the job. don’t say you are not ready or you’re too early. All things we have heard in the past and to be honest even if Edinburgh Removal companies turned up 30 mins late some customers still wouldn’t be ready and does turning up 5 -15 minutes early really throw anyone out of sync in packing the goods for the move?

Bad Weather Edinburgh

After returning to work today after a well deserved break we have had to cancel a couple of jobs due to the high winds. The removal van had been hit twice buy flashing from roofing with one hit in york place and the other in leith walk.

Looking at the amount of severe weather damage caused since 6am this was worse than the past to alerts we have had for high winds. Some of the damaged spotted on our shortest drive out today -  a garden fence on ashley terrace with metal railings blocking pavement, tree on a house in ravelson dykes road, roofing felt with wooden roof on restalrig road, chimney pot on road in orwell place, chimney vents on Montgomery street, fallen tree on queensferry road , wooden fences ripped apart at len lothain granton, various metal refuse bins drifting along Easter road and granton road with wild gusts.

Hopefully this weather will settle before tomorrow as we have already been affected on 27th December by not being able to travel over the forth bridge due to high wind gusts thus causing issues with the next days work.

Looks like a good new year for Edinburgh Roofing companies and scrap metal collectors what with all the metal in the streets blowing off from rooftops!

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is quite common on the internet some sites attracting more incidents than others – those people who do it are unoriginal and very lazy.

Being the Victim of this over 15 times in the past 12 months its getting quite frustrating usually with people doing a copy paste and a few rewordings here and there then there is the idiots who just copy and past even to extent of leaving in names and places they have nothing to do with, mostly these ones are in other cities so its not quite so bad and think no one will notice.

One such issue arose recently with a real idiot on the outskirts of Edinburgh, hes that bright he copied someone local and thinks it’s a magic formula, whom in his vast wisdom decided to copy almost a whole page on his site that was on my site and even other pages and content looked very similar. This buffoon has a name that suggests he’s called bullshit removals and goes around with one of those annoying beanie hats and drives with one hand on his wheel looking all smug but little does everyone know hes a chancer and best well avoided.

White Van Man

 white van man

“White van man” the term stereotype used to describe drivers of 3.5 ton light commercial vehicles such as the Ford Transit van . Such vehicles are commonly  white in colour . The stereotype represents the drivers of such vehicles as having poor driving skills and / or an aggressive and inconsiderate manner. The stereotypical “white van man” is often self-employed running a small business such as builder, carpenter, or plumbers or indeed a small removals company.

Little do most people know that there are actually decent white van men out there working hard to give customer alternative transportation value for money, some small removal companies try and distance themselves from this style of business with wording that doesn’t quite describe how they really operate but they are just that term they think that they are not – a man with a van. You know, the type who  advertise a huge fleet of vans but actually turn up in a bog standard grubby panel van and making excuses as to why its going to take 3-4 trips to do a  small move, in fact  they’ve just ripped you off big time, the reality is there more like a white van man than they think!

Try and avoid this by asking what type of van they have how they are going to deal with extra trips if needed, will you incur a extra cost? and if so how costly this will be to you. Ask why they advertise a huge truck they just don’t Have or suggest the services they offer are just not on offer and just to fleece the general public they are something they are not and never will be. Don’t be fooled by the total garbage you read on various websites with so much ridiculous content, customers should have the sense to see this and its amazing how words can control someone choice

Winter months offer.

Removals Edinburgh - speical offers Van Man Removals Edinburgh are giving discounts to customer who use our van and driver only service, what does this entail you may ask? Well it means the customer does all the work and all we do is turn up in a van and you load and unload. Its like hiring a van but with a man as well best suited for moving single items. our prices go from £20 for a single item and more if its more but if you load /unload at street level (door to door) we can do van and driver hire for £30 for around one hour or so to move 13 cubic metes of goods if you can lug it off in that time, its unlikely you will have that volume but its there if need be.

What’s the offer? Well cheapest guy in town for van hire is the van man in slateford road at £30 for 4 hours, for a transit van size. 4 hours you say and you only offer an hour or so – well one thing it’s a lug on, lug off service and really that’s all you need and you don’t need to go and get the rental van wasting time and putting some fuel in it. our van comes with driver and van is equipped to secure goods and protect them, van hire companies are not!

Plus the simple fact is you get a man whose got genuine experience and knowledge and has carried out 1000s of removals in Edinburgh and there isn’t a situation he cant handle and is one of the most honest movers in town . You just can’t buy that, so make sure you choose the right man with a van for the job – so many but so few you can trust :)

Payment tips

Taking a taxi without having the fair at the end of a journey is never done, well not normally, so what’s the difference when using a man and a van for a removal and getting to destination and not having the payment ready at the end of the job? Thus needing to be taken to a cash machine which you have no idea where one is, nor does the very tired driver/porter. This is quite time consuming and potentially annoying,  sometimes spending 10-20 minutes or more driving around town  looking for one. Once its found and outstanding payment made the customer normally requests to be taken back to destination address. How many taxi drivers would stand for this, not many having a guess, they wouldn’t let you out the cab unless fair paid normally.

When you are moving using this mode of service please make sure you have all the payment ready before the job is even started or even an old fashioned cheque book to hand, cheques are not guaranteed now by the way! Handy little tips like this save a bit of time plus keeps it pleasant between customer and driver especially after a long drive!  It may be a long distance job to a destination in the middle of place miles from any cash point. Or even when one is found the customer is always reluctant to pay an extra £1.5o to use it ( cash point charges)  Speaking through personal experience of the pleasure of driving round Leeds at 1030pm at night looking for something we couldn’t find.

Top common sense Tip

Have payment to hand before the job is even started!

Parking attendants

Edinburgh Parking attendants can a strange bunch, some are ok and live in the normal world of common sense and turn a blind eye but others seem to enjoy hiding in doorways like predators in the jungle hunting prey, writing out tickets at a distance when the mannerly thing would be to say excuse me you cant park there! I’ve seem them at Queensferry street  lane checking out cars/Vans parked at back doors waiting to collect furniture and around the town just standing  just out of view from the driver… punching in info via handheld ticket machine in a rather sneaky deceitful manner and looking smugly pleased as well .Apparently it takes 30 seconds to write out a ticket?

I recently had an parking attendant start doing this when I was parked on Gillespie crescent doing a small removal, not best place to park in the world, but this part of the street was ok and cars/vans could easily get past and on a single yellow. For some reason he decided id been there a long time when in fact id just arrived before he appeared. Coming across as very uncommunicative when I asked him what he was dong and suggested to him he only had to observe me for 5 minutes then leave me to my own devices for a further 30 minutes as the rules state this. Looking rather annoyed when I told him this he asked if I had been a ‘pa’ meaning parking attendant.

I’m not sure what it is about Bruntsfield area, another Edinburgh parking attendant did the same outside the cameo film house when I was in a clearly marked loading bay suggesting as the Removal van was unsigned I had 5 minutes to unload or be ticketed ?  Needles to say this bizarre rule had been made up by him prompting me to call the parking attendants office, he soon scuttled off towards the kings theatre in a confused state of shock and being told this wasn’t the case and he was talking rubbish.

Not all parking attendants are like this, a lot have common sense and let you get on with earning a living being a man with a van and understand as long as you’re not blocking traffic, taking up a permit parking space etc. But the odd few seem hell bend on issuing tickets to all and sundry and not in a pleasant manner, and id guess not going by the rules they know most people don’t know,

Did you know if they are still writing parking ticket out and you drive off there is nothing they can do about it? I’ve lost count of the times spotted attendants handing tickets to clueless driver standing next to the car waiting to accept the ticket. Parking tickets need to be on windscreen and a photo taken for proof.
